Staff an Associate
on the matter.
Associates are AI agents that a firm staffs to a matter, like a junior. Each one does the work end to end and brings it back for approval, with the reasons, the points for and against and the citations. Nothing goes out without a person approving it.
How an Associate works.
A firm staffs an Associate to a matter as it would a junior. The Associate works from that matter’s documents and reports back. The lawyer keeps the decisions.
Staff it to the matter
Choose the Associate for the task. It works on the documents of that matter, and on the instructions and knowledge the firm has set for it.
It does the work end to end
It reads the file, then drafts, reviews or checks, and cites each point to the page of the document or the provision of the law it relies on.
A person approves it
The work comes back on an approval card. The lawyer approves, edits or rejects it. Nothing goes out without that approval.
Approval cards show their working.
Every piece of work comes back on an approval card. It says why the Associate proposes the change, sets out the points for and against, and gives the citations to the source.
- WhyThe reason for the proposal, in the terms of the matter.
- For and againstThe points that support the position, and the points that cut against it.
- CitationsEach point is tied to the page of the document, or the law, it comes from.
- DecisionApprove, edit or reject. Nothing goes out without your approval.

Set each Associate up for the firm’s work.
An Associate works from the firm’s own material. Its profile shows what it is connected to, what it knows and how it is set to work.
- ConnectionsThe places it reads from, such as SharePoint and UK law, and any schedule it runs on.
- KnowledgeThe positions, precedents and method it works from, each with its version.
- MemoriesThe firm lessons the firm has approved for it to use.
- InstructionsThe steps it follows, and the document it returns.
Kept apart, and kept in the UK.
Clava is hosted in AWS London. Data is encrypted throughout, and firm and matter data are kept separate. Nothing from one matter is used on another, and our staff do not access client data in normal running.
See an Associate work on a matter like yours.
Tell us your practice areas and the work that takes your team longest. We’ll show you an Associate doing that work, and talk through where Clava should run for your clients.
